Member of the Supervisory Board (financial profile)

About affect lab

affect lab is an award-winning creative studio and research practice working at the intersection of art, technology and social impact. Together with an international artistic network, we develop immersive stories and projects that contribute to an inclusive future and to the wellbeing of people and cities.

In 2023, affect lab launched Bloody Beautiful: an international movement that amplifies stories about womxn's health through art and design. The movement has now reached almost one million people in its mission to close the gender health gap and to shift narratives around womxn's health from stigma to collective care.

Our organisation is funded through commissions and grants, including from public funds and civil society organisations.

The role of the Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board oversees the policy of the executive board and the general course of affairs within the foundation, and acts as a sparring partner for the executive board. In addition, the Supervisory Board has a number of formal responsibilities, including:

• Acting as a sparring partner for the executive board

• Overseeing financial continuity and risks

• Overseeing reporting and the annual accounts

• Approving major financial and strategic decisions

• The Supervisory Board consists of at least three members; members are appointed for a term of no more than four years (renewable)

• Liaising with our accountant on technical matters where necessary, including the annual accounts and payroll tax.

Who are we looking for?

As a supervisory board member at affect lab, you will have the opportunity to put your experience to work for — and contribute to — an organisation at the intersection of art and social impact, and to actively help shape projects that connect artistic quality with pressing societal issues. We are looking for a Supervisory Board member with a strong financial profile who can act as a sparring partner and supervisor on financial and business matters.

You:

• Have (demonstrable) experience with financial responsibility (e.g. as an accountant, controller, CFO, adviser or supervisory board member)

• Have knowledge of budgets, annual accounts and financial reporting

• Are able to analyse financial risks and opportunities effectively

• Are familiar with fundraising, grants or the non-profit sector (an advantage)

• Can advise at a strategic level without stepping into day-to-day operations

• Have an affinity with art, culture and social impact.

Role within the supervisory board

As the member with a financial profile, you will:

• Advise on the budget, cash flow and financial planning

• Review financial reports and annual accounts

• Contribute ideas on sustainable funding and growth

• Oversee financial governance and processes

• Act as the point of contact for financial matters within the Board.
  

Time commitment

• Approx. 4–6 meetings per year

• Occasional consultation / advice

• Limited additional involvement around the budget and annual accounts.
