#FoodMood
Machine Learning & Sentiment Analysis Tool (2012)
Food Mood is an interactive information visualization and sentiment analysis tool about global food consumption using Twitter as a primary data source. It is a collaboration between affect lab, AI Applied and Jana+Koos.
#FoodMood was featured on Forbes.com and the acclaimed Food Tech Connect blog. The results of this research were published by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (PDF).
Using natural language processing techniques, all English language tweets were collected and analyzed for sentiment, location and foodstuff. The tool captured, in real time, the foods that people were tweeting about and how they felt about them.
The project used public-access data from the World Health Organization (country obesity levels) and country GDP data (CIA Factbook) to develop a well-rounded picture about the relationship between food and emotion.
