Toolkit for the Inbetween

A how-to knowledge base offering tools, frameworks, and inspiration for designing a valuable hybrid experience

How can you make an event, an artwork, or an experience interesting for both on-site and online audiences? The toolkit provides an overview of existing, privacy-friendly platforms and tools for creating hybrid experiences. It also offers practical tips and a vocabulary for how these tools can contribute to an online and onsite audience experience. The toolkit is born out of extensive research into hybrid experiences and their dynamic lineage of experimentation undertaken in the art and cultural sector.

The Toolkit for the Inbetween is a partnership between The Hmm, affect lab, and MU Hybrid Art House. We work together with various location partners including STRP, Tetem, Framer Framed, IMPAKT and Het Nieuwe Instituut for our hybrid experiments. Our digital platform launched at Dutch Design Week 2023 accompanied by a special installation of our experiment Weaving Spaces – a collaborating knitting project, turning the banal visitor survey into a beautiful collaboratively crafted artwork. Find out more about this experiment and others at toolkitfortheinbetween.com.

This project is made possible in part by the Innovation Labs programme, which gives an impulse to new resilience in the cultural and creative sector. This program is carried out by the Creative Industries Fund and CLICKNL on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
